Radisys’ disaggregated and virtualized platforms leverage open architectures and methodologies and an open ecosystem of software and hardware, delivering interoperable and easily integrated solutions and services that accelerate service provider innovation and reduce the total cost of ownership.
“Open Radisys” is the company’s commitment to making open telecom solutions a reality.
Key Needs and Challenges
Radisys makes protocol stacks for 5G and LTE bases stations using the key software elements that enable the implementation of different stack layers using the latest Industry standards for enhanced safety & performance for LTE, NB-IoT, Cat-M, and 5G technologies. Most of their software development and QA is based out of their Bangalore R&D center.
Validation Requirements
During the development and validation cycle of 5G base station stacks, Radisys had to factor in the following:
- Ever evolving 5G specs based on 3GPP
- Integration of software stack with various radio access systems, RRUs
- Handling wide frequency spectrum and bandwidths
- Implementing customer-specific features & standards
- Functional and conformance validation
- Achieving desired performance KPIs
- Continuous, automated validation to achieve CI/CD
Historically, their R&D teams were using traditional hardware-centric UE Simulator tools. However, these expensive tools were not easy to deploy or automated and also required high maintenance costs. This severely restricted their development and testing capabilities and hence their time to market.
To achieve their goals, Radisys was in search of a UE Simulator System which could enable them to execute their validation scenarios efficiently in an automated fashion but also a commercial model that would allow them to create parallel testbeds so their engineering team can innovate faster and introduce new features in a timely manner.
How Simnovus Delivered Value
We proposed our UE Simulator that is built on software-defined radio and transforms intel x86 based on commercially off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware into UE Simulator. We offered a software approach to solve their engineering challenges by enabling them to create multiple parallel testbeds.
The evaluation cycle lasted for about a month. After overcoming a few initial challenges, the Simnovus solution was selected.
The Simnovus Winning Value Proposition
- Software solution – quick to deliver, install, upgrade
- One-click automation
- Functional and performance validation from the same solution
- Swift and efficient tech support
- Multiple concurrent testbeds
- Highest value for money
Our UE Simulator enabled Radisys to win and deliver many customer projects in parallel and hence achieve their business objectives. Our solution built on flexible and scalable platforms expanded Radisys’s validation capabilities and delivered superior value both with the commercial model as well as efficiency gained.
We received our first order with a single 5G unit and within the next few months, Radisys invested in several more systems as we continue to deliver value with continuous product innovation and customer experience.
